“I hope I’m wrong, Medium Staff, when I wonder whether my complaint has caused me to be placed at the bottom of the pile.” — Timothy
You may not be wrong about that. I complained about the curating process a couple of months ago and I have not been curated since. Before that complaint I was being curated 1 to 3 times a week. Now, never.
This was a fantastic article, Timothy, you said everything I want to say and more. I hope someone at Medium reads it but sadly I doubt it will make any difference. They have their agenda and are sticking to it no matter how many of their readers they infuriate.
If you study the home page feed you’ll see that the only pieces that are now being curated are stories that appear in the Medium-run publications at the very top of the page and a tiny handful of the publications with the biggest numbers. NOTHING ELSE GETS CURATED ANYMORE! And none of those Medium-run pubs allow fiction so therefore fiction NEVER gets curated anymore. But Medium has always had an extreme disdain of fiction — at least since I joined back in 2015. Fiction writers are considered by Medium as the ‘untouchables’ of Medium’s social structure. Medium considers fiction to have no value whatsoever. And it’s the same with Spirituality. It has always been this way. So many Medium writers have complained about Medium’s hatred of fiction over the years and Medium summarily ignores them. Now that they have completely stopped curating fiction it’s obvious that they are working on making fiction even more invisible on Medium than it already is.
Of course we can’t fully blame the Medium Staff . They are just following orders from Ev Williams .
