Yes, every experience is what we make of it, or more precisely how we RESPOND* to it (as opposed to how we REACT* to it). Yes, Gail Boenning , I’ve read that article by Jack and it was truly delightful. I hope everyone reads it.
And yes, I have written a little bit about my “walking away from cancer.” In this article I shared what I learned from the experience:
And in this article (which is actually just a response to someone else’s article) I talked a little bit about my personal experiences of healing:
Cancer is most definitely not the easy way to make quantum leaps in awareness. There is nothing easy about it. But sometimes when one is hopelessly stuck in deeply entrenched thinking patterns cancer can potentially be one of the best ways to break those patterns and bust open our awareness.
I could have sat in deep meditation for fifty years straight until I was blue in the face and I doubt I would have ever gained the awareness I did by almost dying of cancer. It certainly was not easy but I gifted myself with just what I needed to get unstuck from my self-imposed rut and break free and proceed forward on the long trajectory of self-awareness. I gifted myself with a huge challenge with the cancer and now I am gifting myself with the huge challenge of traveling against the spiritual current. A sapling is made strong by the unrelenting wind and other elements, allowing it to grow strong into a big tree.
*For more on the difference between ‘reacting’ and ‘responding,’ as well as more about healing, here is a somewhat recent essay I wrote:
