With no menu or navigation for publications how does a reader find a submission guideline page in order to find out how to become a writer for that publication or what the submission rules are? And with the new profile blog format will we no longer be able to feature a story at the top of the page? Gosh, I hope we will still have "New From Your Network People" feeds. I don't want to miss a single writer I follow due to endless scrolling down a blog.
And who chooses how much of a story is revealed before the "Read More" link? And for those very short posts that are in their entirety on the blog feed, will they earn MPP money every time the blog feed is scrolled?
And yes, the discoverability of new writers and low-earning writers is a HUGE question mark! Is this yet another attempt to funnel all eyeballs (and all money) up to the top 5% of most popular elite writers & pubs while trying to make everyone else invisible? Most of the "upgrades" in the last couple of years have been to this end.
With this blogging format it seems Medium is going backwards. For every positive step Medium takes forward they seem to take 3 or 4 steps backward. But I will wait it out. It is hard to remain hopeful when numbers keep going down, down, down and when the goals of Ev Williams are in direct opposition to the goals of 90% of all Medium writers.
I've checked out the pubs with the new format and I don't care for it at all. I hope that pubs and independent writers will have an option of keeping the old format. But with each passing year Medium writers and pubs seem to have less and less options.
