“If you want to get Medium’s attention you need to make content that helps Medium also. You need to think about this place as a business.” — DHBogucki

What would truly help Medium is quality content from ALL perspectives. Sadly, that is too often shoved aside for popularity-driven corporate mainstream content because Medium is convinced that that popularity-driven corporate mainstream content is what will make Medium a thriving business. Sadly, they are probably right. Why waste critical visibility on something that is not sure to be hyper popular?

Ev Williams has made his intention clear that he envisions Medium as a popularity-driven corporate mainstream news aggregator and he wants the readers to pay for it so that there will be no advertising. While many authors wish Medium could be more than that, that is his vision and it is his company and he needs to make it a viable and profitable business. So if those in the partner program wish to reap any rewards they need to shoot for being mainstream and popular above all else. This is “making content” for Medium that Medium believes it needs to succeed and for which Medium will grant visibility. Everything else ends up in the gaping void of the Medium Abyss. So, sadly, it is crystal clear how to get Medium’s attention.
