Very depressing stats. Thanks, Quincy Larson. It confirms the prevalent perception that Medium is a tech/business website. When I send a link to my (non-Medium) followers for one of the stories I’ve published on Medium they come and read it and then wander around Medium. They then send me a note asking me why the hell I’m publishing my stories on a tech/business website. I’ve been asking myself the same question for a long time now.

In your list of topics that never appear in that exalted top percentile you forgot to mention creative short fiction. That is a genre that is shunned and scorned by most Medium readers and which the Medium editorial staff does everything they can to hide and which they are collectively adverse to.

It would be nice if there was a second Medium in which there were no tech/entrepreneur articles so that other things could be seen and found.

Sadly, to most Medium readers and to the entire Medium editorial staff an article is not considered “useful” unless it gives advice on how to become a tech/entrepreneur billionaire, which seems to be the only valuable goal and purpose in life to people in today’s world. It’s no wonder Medium has so many readers and such a narrow focus.

Again: Why the hell am I publishing here on Medium when I don’t write tech/entrepreneurship articles? I’m obviously an idiot.
