Treasure Hunters
Finding treasures and moving on
Carrying the treasure home turned out to be much more of an ordeal than anyone thought. It was almost as much of a struggle as finding it.
While everyone was taking a break someone said, “While finding the treasure was a struggle it was also a great joy. We found it, thrilled in the finding of it, and we experienced it. Why didn’t we just leave it there for someone else to find? Why did we have to bring it home with us?”
“That’s what humans do,” someone replied. “Finding a treasure is never enough. We must possess it and make it ours.”
“And keep it from others.”
“We must hold on to it so we never forget it and lose it.”
A woman sitting just outside of the group spoke up, “I say we leave it right here beside the road. Let it be found by others. Instead of holding on to this treasure we should spend our time looking for new treasures. Why stay stuck on only one treasure?”
A silence ensued during which a strong gust of wind washed over the group.
Eventually everyone stood and began walking the long road home. While they left the treasure behind they brought the experience of it home with them in their hearts. Not being weighed down by the treasure, they were free to keep searching for new treasures, realizing that they had unlimited space in their hearts to store infinite treasures.
