There’s always a catch. This does not entice me to submit to a publication. How much of a cut will the publication take from my earnings? Will they charge a membership fee for the privilege of writing for them for money? (At which point you’ve got to write and submit like crazy just to make back your membership fee before you make any money?) How will I know for sure if the publication will actually pay me? How will I know how much Medium is paying the publication for MY work?

There are simply too many fingers in the pie with this new system and it is the writer’s cut of the pie that gets diminished. No thank you. The publications might boast some huge number of followers to entice writers to give up a portion of their earnings to write for them but, as you pointed out, Vico, those numbers are a joke.

I got excited for a minute but now that I know what the catch is I think I will just continue writing independently.
