The Geese Are Flying!

The geese are flying!

--

For the first time this year every single window in my home is wide open. I can barely contain my joy!

I fantasize about living in a place where I can leave my windows open all year.

Yesterday, over the course of just a couple of hours the temperature here shot up by almost 50 degrees (Fahrenheit). It was a little freaky. Then yesterday evening it began raining and it kept raining until noon today. It has finally stopped but the sky is still gray. The air flowing in through my opened windows has been scrubbed clean by 18 consecutive hours of quasi-torrential rain and I am trying to suck up as much of it as I can into my lungs.

Tomorrow we’re supposed to have a snowstorm.

With the windows open most of my houseplants are currently in a state of euphoria just as I am. A few of them, though, are a little confused (just as I am).

The big news I want to share is that the geese are flying! There are between 2,500 and 3,000 Canada geese who winter on the little lakes south of town. In summer there are only about 500. It is in spring that the migrating population gets ready to fly up to Canada. Why part of the population stays here and the others migrate, I don’t know. I’m not an ornithologist.
