The Christmas Tree Police

Where are they when you need them?

Yesterday, October 18th, I spotted the first Christmas tree of the upcoming holiday season. October 18th! Sixty-eight days BEFORE Christmas! It’s not even Halloween yet!

The fully decorated Christmas tree was in the lobby of our local Post Office. Upon first seeing it I became a little disoriented. Did I take a nap and accidentally sleep for two months or something?

How do you react when you see Christmas decorations being displayed so very early before Christmas? Does it annoy you? Do you become outraged? Incensed? Do you write a nasty letter to the editor of your local newspaper complaining about it? Do you complain to everyone you meet for the rest of the day? Do you gather with friends to plan protests? Do you petition your congresswoman to create a national Christmas tree police force that would issue citations to businesses and institutions that put up Christmas decorations before a specific agreed upon date somewhere near Thanksgiving? Should there be jail time for repeat offenders? Would you help organize national boycotts of businesses who put up Christmas trees too early?

The nice thing about seeing Christmas decorations up in the middle of October is that it gives us a chance to OBSERVE our reactions. Many won’t take that opportunity. They simply react.
