The Best Father’s Day Ever

Back when my daughter was still a girl Father’s Day used to be one of the biggest holidays of the year. She went out of her way to make it a special day for me (with plenty of help from her mother).

While every Father’s Day was very special back then there was one Father’s Day that stood out above all the rest. I don’t remember exactly what year it was but I think that she may have been a freshman in high school that year.

I came home from a long day at work and when I walked into the dining room I saw that the dining table was all set up with perfectly placed dinnerware as well as about four or five lit candles. My freshman daughter stood in front of the stove and turned around as I entered.

“Happy Daddy’s Day!” she proclaimed. She then invited me to sit at the table as she poured me a glass of wine. She then proceeded to serve me a meal that she had cooked herself!

She served spaghetti, salad and garlic bread. I instantly realized that she had gotten help from her mother. Spaghetti was the one and only thing her mother knew how to cook.

I had literally cooked thousands, if not tens of thousands, of meals for my daughter but this was the very first time she had ever cooked a meal for me. I was completely and…
