Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing that video. It’s been a hundred years since I’ve heard that song. That song was an anthem for an entire generation. I was part of that generation. It has been so depressing to see each succeeding generation lose sight of what was expressed during that glorious time.

But the pendulum swings back and forth, back and forth. While the generations since that profoundly wonderful time have all seemed to slip back into the density of popularity and excessive wealth and intense materialism and right-wing ideology and ardent consumerism there is a new generation sprouting forth. When I see videos of today’s teenagers speaking out on issues I am thrown back to that time a few decades ago when young people stood up against prevailing paradigms and provided hope for the future. These youngsters are reigniting the hope that has been lost over the years. They are reminding us old fogeys what we used to stand for and fight for. They are re-igniting a flame that has been on the verge of going out.

They put a smile on my face. And if that isn’t enough all I have to do is go spend a few hours with my granddaughters. They are the next generation that will be speaking out. They generate even more hope within me.

The current crop of older people who are currently fucking up the world sprang from the same generation who sang about peace and love and togetherness. They were silent then but now they are pushing the world into devastation. The ones who sang out for a better world have been silenced and the silent ones who followed the path of greed and exploitation are now the prominent voices. We old fogeys failed.

I pray to God this new generation does not fail. I support them with every fiber of my being.
