I agree with everything you said. If we are going to celebrate a holiday we need to know exactly what we’re doing. Everything we do nowadays seems to be fake. But underneath all of that are very profound messages if only we would dig down to find them.
I think the Thanksgiving holiday should be a time all of us spend a little time learning about First Nations and their perspectives of gratitude. It could greatly expand our own narrow perspectives.
It is also a great time to think back on history — not just our collective history but our personal histories. Like all holidays it should be a time of storytelling.
It is through stories that we start seeing what is beneath our actions.
