Studying For the Force

He had to pass the test

--

Stanley had been studying all day for the exam the next morning. He couldn’t get the job unless he passed the test. Exhausted, he looked over the next page of notes…

  1. The word judgment only has one ‘e.’
  2. Drapes is a verb. Draperies is a noun.
  3. Never end a sentence with a preposition.
  4. I need to lie down. I lay the gun on the table.
  5. Use commas before & after appositives.
  6. Capitalize the first word after a colon if it begins a new sentence…

Just then the front door opened. It was Stanley’s wife.

“Hi honey, I’m home.”

“Hi darling.”

“How’s it going?

“Very well. This time tomorrow I hope to be an officer of the Grammar Police. I’m confident I’ll get the job.”

“That’s nice. Why is it so dark in here? Why don’t you open the drapes?”

Stanley gasped. “Honey, I can’t open drapes but I can open the draperies.”

She slammed her purse down on the coffee table, “So is this what our marriage is gonna be like? You correcting my grammar all the time?”

“Oh no! I promise I’ll only correct other people, not you.”

She rolled her eyes. “Why couldn’t I have married a dentist?”
