Space Exploration

Where do you do it?

--

I freely admit that I am not an astronaut. I have never gone higher up off this planet than an airliner will take me. I have never breached the many layers of atmosphere surrounding this planet. I have never stepped foot on the moon or any other object in the sky. I have never spent a moment on the International Space Station or any other facility of either science or science fiction. I’ve never seen any Star Trek movie and I’ve only seen one Star Wars movie. I have never left the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God.

The face of God is available to all right here on the planet. We don’t have to get into a space suit and fly up in a rocket to see it. Of course, I have never been in a space suit up in a rocket so I really can’t say that with any sort of authority.

Sometimes I think those astronauts are really lucky.

They are taken far, far, far out of their comfort zones into a world not experienced by all of us other Earthlings. I have tried hard to imagine what that would be like but I’m sure my imaginings don’t come close to what those astronauts actually experience.

Can you imagine being in some rocket ship looking down on the planet Earth? You are suddenly above and beyond all the drama taking place on the planet. You are momentarily disconnected from the mass human…
