Remembering Joy

Being in Joy

Holding hands, they walked together down the country road enjoying the crisp morning air and the explosion of birdsong.

“Life is so grand,” he said.

“It is so beautiful,” she said.

Butterflies flitted about in the meadow of wildflowers.

“We knew that as children but forgot,” she said.

“So many years spent trying to remember,” he said.

Two squirrels ran across the road ahead of them.

“Only at the beginning and end of our lifetime is joy enough,” she said.

“We spend the time in between desperately searching for more, more, more,” he said.

The man kicked a rock lying in the road.

“If only we would remember that joy can be found simply by being,” he said.

“And the only thing we need to find is each other,” she said, smiling.
