Peter Piper Paradox

Erroneous alliteration

--

Once, decades ago, I spent a day picking peppers. I didn’t get paid by the hour but rather by the pound. I picked and picked and at the end of the day I made a whopping $27. How awesome is that?! Pepper picking pays better than writing!

The whole time I was picking peppers I kept thinking of that famous alliteration, Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. I kept thinking about how inaccurate that is. Pickled peppers have already been picked! Then they’ve been pickled and put in jars. The only way you can pick pickled peppers if you have several opened jars of pickled peppers on the kitchen counter and you slowly pick one slice of pickled pepper out of a jar at a time then plop it in your mouth. I’ve done that and it’s just not the same as picking peppers off pepper plants.

And it doesn’t pay at all! In fact you end up paying the next morning.
