Personally, I have always preferred the word Autumn over Fall. As with most things, I am in the minority as to my preference. In America if there is a choice between two words the shorter word always wins. Brevity is an American tradition.
Back when I lived in the scorching hot desert Autumn was that short span of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Back when I lived high up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado Autumn began in mid-August and lasted into the first week or two of September — when winter would commence. Where I live now Autumn actually corresponds to the calendar.
I have always loved Autumn despite the underlying dread of what follows it. I happen to be a spring baby and winter can never be short enough.
I look forward to any further seasonal ruminations you might share concerning your introduction to Winter, Spring and other American seasons.
