P. G., I feel and understand your distress. I once worked as a professional proofreader/editor for a professional print magazine. I hated it. Why was having to teach writers things that they should have learned in high school? It was very distressing. So I quit that job to focus on the editing of my own writing. I wanted to be a writer, not an editor. Of course I still had to deal with other editors. Here on Medium I have had countless stories rejected by publications and I was only ever given two reasons: 1.) My work was not mainstream enough, and 2.) My work was not formulaic enough. I never received a single comment about grammar or punctuation, or spelling, or structure. It, too, was very distressing so, like my editing job, I quit. I did not care to play the Medium Publication Game. Not caring to join some clique or cult in order to get published, I instead became an Independent Author (something that is being scorned on Medium today). But even that is distressing so I've quit that, too. Now I'm just a lazy hobby writer and I'm happier than ever. But yes, I understand your distress. Hang in there.
