Odessa Memories
Another old neighborhood gets hit
A month ago I wrote an article called, El Paso Memories, following the El Paso mass shooting. I was especially hit hard by that shooting because it happened in my old neighborhood where I lived as a teenager.
And now there has been yet another Texas mass shooting, this time in Odessa, Texas where I once lived for a couple of years while I was in my twenties. The shooting ended in a movie theater parking lot that is just a couple of blocks away from where I used to live.
It’s starting to freak me out.
I won’t go over memories of my time in Odessa except to say that it was a truly wonderful time. That neighborhood where the horror just happened was the neighborhood where I met and fell in love with my now ex-wife. Everything back then was imbued with love and joy and excitement.
Now I can feel the sorrow coming from that neighborhood from so far away.
I pray for the people of Odessa and Midland (where I also lived for a year). I pray for the victims and their families. I pray for the little two-year-old girl who was shot. I pray for Texas. I pray for America. And I pray for all of humankind.
