Now this is the very best listicle I’ve ever read on Medium. I wholeheartedly agree on every point. I am especially disappointed with Medium’s ‘Lit’ topic. Some of the other topics have a handful of curated posts on the home page but when you click on ‘More’ you see a feed of algorithm-surfaced posts. Not the case for ‘Lit.’ When you click on ‘More’ for ‘Lit’ you just get another short page of curator chosen posts. There is no way to DISCOVER any of the great ‘Lit’ out there that Medium is so desperately trying to hide. Why does Medium not trust us to discover on our own and make decisions for ourselves?

What I would like to put on my homepage is this feed here: https://medium.com/tag/fiction . It’s a bottomless feed of ALL fiction. I can scroll down that feed and choose for myself what I want to read rather than having the curating staff choose for me. When you click on ‘Latest Stories’ on that page you can see ALL the fiction as it is being published. When you compare that to the ‘Lit’ page of only curated posts it becomes obvious that Medium is hiding about 98% of all fiction from the eyes of Medium readers who don’t know about that link I just posted. Instead of making it easier to discover new things, Medium is doing everything it can to LIMIT what we’re exposed to. Why is Medium doing this? It’s beyond infuriating.

Will they ever listen?
