Nalini, if you haven’s seen it already you simply must see Danny Boyle’s film, Yesterday. I watched it a couple of weeks ago on DVD. I didn’t know what to expect and I was quite blown away. It follows the premise of ‘What would the world be like if all memory of the Beatles was erased in everyone’s minds? Except one person.’ It examines a world in which the Beatles never happened except one person — a musician — still remembered them. The film is a real metaphysical mind-tweaker. And it is also full of great Beatles music. Beatles music has been playing in my noggin ever since.

The concept of When I’m 64' is a very important factor in the movie but I won’t spoil it for you. The film has so many layers to it I’m thinking of watching it again.

Anyway, I am also in the last legs of the approach to 64 (I’ll race ya). Back when I was a kid listening to The Beatles play that song I envisioned myself at 64 and it was not anything at all like what I am now experiencing. What I am now experiencing is way, way better.

As far as transitioning goes, transitioning into my sixties was one of the most glorious transitions of my life. If only I knew it would be so wonderful.

Sure, I may have ‘lost my looks’ and my body doesn’t work the same but I’m actually healthier. And a little bit smarter. In my fifties I kept thinking that I should start yoga or dance or some other physical discipline but instead I took up walking. I think it may have been the right choice for me.

The biggest aspect of my transitioning into the sixties is that the membrane separating the realities of my false sense of self and the reality of my true self as part of the universe has grown thin and transparent. I can see through it now and it continues to dissipate and soon will hopefully be completely gone. That changes everything.

I haven’t really celebrated my birthdays much over the last decade but I think I’m going to throw a Beatles-themed party for number 64.
