My German mother was a member of the Hitler Youth Corps when she was young. She used to have a framed photograph of Adolph Hitler on her bedside table. She adored him unquestioningly. She remained a Nazi at heart for the rest of her life. If she were still alive today she would be a HUGE Trump fan…

She became an American and got a free ticket to America by marrying an American G. I. She then proceeded to raise four American children. During my childhood I heard her say hundreds of times, “If only Hitler had won the war the world would be such a better place.” It may have been over a thousand times that we heard her say that. (She never said it, though, while our dad was home.)

When I see the unquestioning devotion of Trump’s racist fan base to his tyrannical leadership I see my mother. And it is really, really scary.

It is becoming harder and harder to be a proud American as America implodes with runaway racist hatred, white supremacy, misogyny, and the demonizing of all people who are not white, Christian, and Republican — all of it being fomented by Donald Trump. Our country is falling apart at the seams and Trump’s racist fan base is cheering. History is repeating itself and it is really, really scary.

As for Trump’s super expensive military testosterone parade, I cannot help but remembering seeing on TV video of similar parades in Moscow not that long ago. There were tanks and phallic missiles and thousands of goose-stepping soldiers. That is the direction Donal Trump is taking America in. It is nauseating and it is really, really scary.

For the sake of all humankind Americans must join together to end this madness NOW.
