Matt Charnock, while you go on and on about how perfect and pure San Francisco is you might want to read this recent article from the New York Times:
It turns out that San Francisco is not only one of the most expensive places to live on the planet but the area is also one of the most polluted places on the planet! While your real estate travelogue conveniently hides these very relevant facts, the truth is that the San Francisco area is one of the most toxic places in the world. Even worse than the physical pollution is the mental pollution. People living in the San Francisco consciousness bubble seem to be utterly unaware of the real world that exists outside of that bubble.
1906 was a long time ago. Nobody in San Francisco remembers it. Whenever something becomes so profoundly unbalanced — as it is in San Francisco today — then Mother Nature steps in to help restore balance. That is when commercial real estate travelogues no longer have much impact.
Yes, San Francisco is green and that reflects the color of money. San Francisco was founded on the ideal of pure, unadulterated greed. It was the rich man’s paradise. Los Angeles, the city of angels, was founded on the ideal of hope; a place for the common human to seek a better place to live.
Right now, both places are totally fucked. Whether for rich or poor, both places are cliffs that lemmings are flocking to. That will soon change.
