Jim Reeves , I started doing some blocking but I quickly realized that the Medium blocking tool is designed to keep certain people from reading YOUR POSTS. It is not designed to block certain users from your feed. I don’t want to block anyone from reading my articles and stories (unless they troll me and wage attacks against me). I only want to block certain authors and certain types of content from appearing and deluging my feed.
It seems that the only tools Medium provides us with to do that is to un-follow or to use the ‘Show Me Less Of This’ link which I now see no longer exists. So all we can really do is un-follow.
But what if the user that we are un-following writes for a publication that we follow? It seems that they will still continue to show up in our feed even after un-following them because they write for a publication we follow. I don’t want to un-follow the publication because I like what their other authors are posting. So if I continue to follow the publication I continue to get the crap from the writer I tried to un-follow (plus all the crap that they recommend).
It sure seems futile to try to control one’s feed. The algorithmic Medium system seems hopelessly broken. But, of course, that is only from our point of view. The Medium Staff may very well see their algorithm as working perfectly in regards to achieving Medium’s goals.
Whatever the case, the frustration just continues….
