It is nice to see the numbers of claps and responses to this story. Goodness, gracious I hope Medium listens although I certainly would not hold my breath. Medium has their agenda that they are sticking to and they rarely listen to what members say and ask for.

It is beyond obvious that Medium is weeding out smaller publications in favor of corporate publications. It is beyond obvious that their intention is to be a curator of mainstream corporate media. It is beyond obvious that they are throwing the whole notion of ‘democratization of information’ out the window.

The fact that members of the partnership program cannot get paid for their work if their work appears in a small, non-corporate publication is one way that Medium is encouraging authors to not submit to publications and now this intentional hampering of publications’ ability to request stories from authors is further proof that Medium is working to phase out non-corporate publications. Small, non-corporate publications are obviously not part of Medium’s agenda.

For every step forward that Medium takes they seem to take 3 or 4 steps backward. It’s getting rather infuriating. Medium, please start listening to your users.

Medium and Ev Williams, I support publications like Code Like A Girl that are working to amplify the voices of everyday people to inform, teach, and support Medium readers.

Please do not remove the ability of publications to request content.
