I have a feeling I know what publication you’re talking about but I won’t mention a name. If it is the same pub, they pulled the same stunt with me a few months ago. The first time they asked me to submit I did and I was puzzled that the stats turned out to be far less than if I had published it independently. Looking at their publication home page I realized why. They publish dozens and dozens of stories every day so if they publish a story by you it stays on their home page for no more than 5 to 10 hours before it disappears into their bottomless archive. So I ended up having less visibility with that publication that brags about how big they are than if I had published independently or with a small publication. They asked me to submit two more times after that and I declined both times. I think they got the hint because they’ve never asked me again.
You hit the nail on the head with this article, P.G. Barnett . I avoid all the big-name publications like the plague (or pandemic). Their one and only interest is in growing their own numbers. To them numbers are what Medium is all about. To them it’s the only thing that matters.
