How can we take woo-woo seriously if we cannot, at the same time, make fun of it? Buddha, Lao Tzu, Chuang Tsu, Confucious, Muhammed, Jesus, Rumi, and every great spiritual teacher used levity to inspire and inform. Spirituality without levity is life without laughter and that is a life that is not spiritual. If someone talking about spirituality cannot make light of what they speak about then their over-seriousness is a sign to be cautious. When we get hung up on words we are missing what those words are pointing at. The term, ‘woo-woo’ can effectively be used as an ice-breaker; a term that melts the rigid walls of ingrained perspectives that separates people of different ideologies. When used in a joyous and playful manner it can be very endearing. It can show that we are not locked behind rigid walls of seriousness and that we are open to the humor of the universe and to all perspectives.
