Great points, Dheeraj Dhobley . Thanks for sharing. I really like the idea of having two separate feeds and two different recommendation systems. We could have one feed like the one we have now where everything that shows up is chosen for us by the people we follow (and the algorithm) and another feed for stuff that we choose. I’d love to be able to follow someone without getting all the stuff they recommend in my feed. I’d love a feed that is not connected in any way to the number of recommends or number of followers someone has so that the feed isn’t filled only with the very top 1% writers.

I’ve been tweaking my feed for a year and a half and I just can’t get it to show me what I want. As for those feeds across the top of the page, I have no interest in Business, Tech or Politics (the 3 premiere subjects Medium champions and fills my feed with). Humans and Culture are rather vague subject categories and what I find in those 2 feeds is mostly a repetition of what is in my main feed. I don’t bother much with Editor’s Picks since the editorial staff’s interests and my interests are as different as night and day. I almost never click on top stories because that is strictly all from the top 1% elite writers and I’ve already seen that stuff in my main feed.

I really, really miss the Reading Roulette and the Fiction feeds. I discovered some fantastic writers through that Fiction feed and it’s sad to know that now I have to do all the digging on my own. Of course, what I would really like is a good way to discover exciting new authors who don’t have enough green hearts to make it into any feed. I’m not a tech geek so I have no idea how Medium can deliver on that. I don’t have any suggestions on that but I know that is something I would really love.

Anyway, all this thinking about Medium is really tiring me out. It seems so futile. I think the best thing I — or anybody — can do is to just focus exclusively on writing and let the chips fall where they may.
