Excellent! The sad truth is that the Medium system is just downright broken. And nothing is being done about it by Medium or its editors/curators (usually the same people, like the one you mentioned). It is strictly up to us independent authors and independent editors to bring about any positive changes and that's really hard considering that we are working with a broken system.
