Discoverability has always been a top priority for writers but not a priority at all for Medium and its curators. In my opinion this is one of Medium’s biggest problems.

As for publications, I have essentially quit submitting to publications since there is no way to get paid. At first, I thought Medium was trying to edge out publications (except for the big corporate ones, of course) but I think it may be more of a technical issue that Medium has not decided if it wants to solve.

It all comes down to the writer’s decision. Do they want quantity of followers or do they want to eat? It would be nice if we could have it both ways.
