“Carol” sang for you in the “Carolinas.” How freakishly appropriate is that? To me, Carol sang from the desert. At first, it may not seem appropriate, but she sang so much that the desert vibe was forever etched into the fabric of her art — at least for me. Now, so many decades later, as soon as I hear a Carole King song I am immediately transported to the desert. I can’t help it. When Carole King sings I smell sage and juniper. And the earth spilling forth her treasures. I smell the ripeness of possibility, the alluring scent of potentiality and I feel the comfort of home.

And the stars are always twinkling overhead.
