“ One caveat is that I didn’t suggest it to the curation team, and it didn’t appear on the homepage of Medium…”
Call me stupid but I didn’t even know that we could suggest something to the curation team. I’ve never found any way to do that.
My biggest beef with the new Medium is the same beef I had with the old Medium. And that is the persistent lack of ‘discoverability.’ The curating team could help with this but it seems they are focused on searching for what is most popular and promoting that. They will find a handful of quality articles and stories (as well as a handful of pieces that are of lesser quality) and stick those at the top of the feeds where they remain for what seems like weeks while so many other quality pieces never get seen and fall into the Medium abyss because the curating team never saw them and therefore they never appear in any major feeds.
I’ve found a great deal of quality writing that never appears in the feeds because the curating team never sees it. I would love to suggest some of these great pieces to the curating team to help keep the pieces from sinking quickly into oblivion (giving them 50 claps doesn’t seem to make much difference) but I don’t know how to suggest anything to the curators. If anyone could enlighten me on this I would be most appreciative.
Great article, by the way. Ben Wolford . I’m also holding out that the new model may work in the long run. I guess we’ll see.
