Still, I am hoping Medium figures out a way to make it easier to discover new talented quality writers who remain lost in obscurity because they don’t have tens of thousands of followers and recommends and are therefore not listed as a top writer because of that and because they may not write in the top most popular tags. There are so many great writers on Medium like this. It would be nice to recommend quality writers to be included in ‘top writers.’ The sheer number of recommends and followers is not the only way to judge quality. But this seems to be what Medium is focusing on. Yes, I know it makes business sense but why not step out of that rigid box and open things up? But meanwhile, seriously, I am happy about this new feature. I hope all the new features won’t be focused exclusively on the top 1%.
