“ The reason yogis began to do the asanas — the postures associated with what westerns think of as yoga is to be able to prepare their bodies to sit and meditate for longer and longer periods of time.”
About the only asana that I do is the ‘stand up straight asana.’ That may be the incorrect terminology but I do most all of my mediation standing up. I’ve been doing it this way for almost a decade. Actually, now that I think about it, I think it’s called the ‘two-by-four’ asana. Straight and rigid as a two-by-four.
I’m sure I’m doing yoga all wrong but, according to your ending quotation, what I’m doing wrong is that I am praying more than meditating.
Actually, now that I think about it, I realize that I pray standing up and I meditate in the ‘ergonomic desk chair’ asana. Hmm…
Boy, I really need to take some yoga classes…
And I need to keep reading your wisdom-filled articles.
Thanks.
