A Freaky Dream About Time
What could this mean?
I had a freaky dream this morning. I dreamed that I got up out of bed and looked at the little alarm clock in my bedroom. The time seemed wrong and I wondered if the battery had gone dead in the clock. So I went into the kitchen and, turning on the light, looked at the wall clock above my kitchen window.
It, too, had the ‘wrong time.’ I sensed that the sun was about to rise but the clock showed that it was still in the middle of the night. As I focused on the clock more intently I suddenly realized that the second hand was rotating backwards! I watched the second hand go backwards around the clock face until it reached the top position at which point the minute hand moved backwards one minute.
I was overcome with an ominous feeling. Something was wrong.
I then went back into the bedroom and picked up the little alarm clock. I quickly realized that the second hand on the alarm clock was also moving backwards. Time was going backward!
This freaked me out so much that I woke up. Getting out of bed, I picked up the alarm clock and saw that time was proceeding as normal in a ‘clockwise’ fashion. Looking out the window I saw that the night sky was just barely starting to lighten. The sun would be rising soon. I then went into the kitchen and saw that the time on my kitchen clock was also normal and not moving backward.
I’ve always been a weirdo about time. For a very long time I have considered time to be an illusion. I have written about this quite a few times over the years. I have not worn a wristwatch in 36 years because I don’t want to be a slave to time. The only reason I have a clock in my kitchen is for cooking purposes as well as to know when to go to my part-time job. I never use the alarm on my alarm clock in the bedroom because I wake up when I sense the darkness turning to light from outside my windows. I just have that clock for emergencies.
Of course, there is another clock in my home and that is the one on my laptop, which I can only see if the laptop is on. That clock shows the ‘real time.’ My kitchen clock and my alarm clock are both set 10 minutes ahead of the real time. This way I’m never late for an appointment. I am always showing up for work or for appointments 10 to 15 minutes early. While this annoys other people it keeps me from ever feeling rushed. I don’t like being rushed.
Anyway, I can’t seem to shake the dream. It keeps popping into my head. I am rather confused by it. So if anyone reading this has any opinions as to the possible meaning or significance of this short dream I would love to hear it. Any dream interpreters out there?
